Mini Starter clearance -
09-20-08, 04:37 PM
Anyone buy a mini starter and have clearance issues?
I was thinking of getting this:
NEW Ford Mini PMGR Racing Starter 302 351 Higher Torque
The reason I ask is the solenoid portion looks like it sticks up quite a bit more than the old style:

sorry about that... i was able to find them on Google before. the starter motor went bad due to water damage maybe and i called them if it could be rebuilt. they said i would have to buy a new starter. so, i looked around & found a guy to rebuild it for me 5 blocks away for $90.

Thanks,
The catalog only shows the Chevy type. So how much clearance do you have with yours? Does it look like the one in the picture above left?

there are some pix of the starter in my CarDomain. check out page 11 in the catalog... there's Ford 289-351W.

Remember that the body of the ministarted is actually not as big around. I can't tell you for sure but I remember the mini starter that I've got not being any bigger then the standard one. What would you run into clearence issues with on that side anyways ? All the clearence issues seem to be on the drivers side, at least for me.

The pictures are deceiving I think. After all, the info states it’s made to fit. I read in a post somewhere that terminal where the battery cable is attached was very close to the headers. Thanks for the input.
