skinnies on a 96 cobra.... -
10-18-03, 09:18 AM
hi guys new guy here I was wondering if 15" draglites will fit on the front of my cobra looking at going 3.5" wide. will it clear the rotor? I know if it was 8" wide it wouldnt. if any of you have them on your cobra and can tell me the back spacing that would be great. thanks.

Get a 30mm H&R Spacer from Maximummotorsports.com and they'll work just fine...

The easiest setup would be with the H&R Spacers and Prostars...That way you don't need to grind, and you won't need longer lugnuts up front...The Bogarts don't need any grinding, but you do need longer studs to have enough thread to put the lug nut on...
The Prostars and H&R's would still be cheaper than if you got the Bogarts and longer studs too...

Skinnies -
11-05-03, 05:41 PM
Which one is safer. Are those spacers with the bolts built in them the safest. I don't want the front end to come down and snap those things!!! Are they safe for the street. I went to the weldracing site and I'm not sure which skinny I need. There are three 3.5's to choose from . I know it is 4.5 bolt pattern but how about the diameter? Is there a weight difference between the draglites and prostars? Any differences. I know alot of questions but I do appreciate the help. Thanks

I would think that the safest setup would be longer studs with Bogart skinnies that have the spacer welded to them...I believe that's the only 'true' NHRA legal way to run skinnies, although most tracks don't check on that stuff unless you are racing in a big event or something...
But many people use the H&R spacers, and I think a lot of road racers/auto-x guys use them also to widen the cars stance for better cornering...

I am going through the same thing with my 97 cobra. I just bought 17x10.5 cobra r's and they slowed me down 2 tenths so I want draglites. I want to keep mine on for street use, so should I go with a 15x5 or 15x7 up front instead of the skinnies?

Sorry but i got to call on that.they are not much heavier than the stock wheels and tires.
for you to lose a full two tenths you would have to add a good 100+ pounds of weight.

It isn't just the added weight, but also the extra friction and movement on the top end of the track. Smart guy...

Plus not to mention the added rotational mass...

I understand all that but its not gonna hurt to the tune of 2 TENTHS.
Just because he lost doesnt mean it was the tires. It could be track conditions, weather conditions, traction issues.
DA effects quarter mile times.
So unless they were installed and ran against stockers on the same day ,its not a valid point.

Two tenths sounds completely believable in a close to stock car. Remember that .2 when you're in the 13s or high 12s is not difficult to lose...

My car is stock except for off-road H and flowmasters. I was running consistent 8.90's in the 1/8th now im running 9.10-9.20 with the same 60ft's and both were in cool temeratures. My car weighed 3200lbs before the wheel swap, haven't been back to the scale since, maybe I'll do that today out of curiosity. Either way, I still want welds, but are skinnies safe for the street with the spacers?

what tires were you running on stock wheels and what tires are you running now? There's no way going from a 8" wheel to a 10.5" wheel is gonna add 2/10's unless the new tires won't hook like the old ones did.
