Would you rather the '06 Cobra have a S/C V8 or V10? - 11-23-03, 09:29 PM

Would you rather the '06 Cobra have a S/C V8 or V10? assuming both put out the same HP, torque, gas milage, and cost the same.

You'll have to be a little more specific. Are we talking about the 427ci v10?

If so, v10 it is. More displacement and an extra two cylinders.

Won't be long before vortech or a few other companies make a supercharger for it. Hmmm, blown v10.

Besides, v10's are just pimp. Usually it and v12's are reserved for supercars.

I wouldn't mind the S/c 5.4L v8 either.

If its something like the 351/5.8L V-10 that people talked about a month or so ago, then yeah it would be sweet. Imagine a stupid little F-body wanting some, 2 extra cylinders=no contest.

Though, the S/C would also be nice to have.

Put the two together and theres heaven.

I don't understand why more people would vote for the V10. If for no other reason that you could just change a pulley on the SC and really boost the performance of your Stang.

Good point. Best sound, bar none. The Vanquish V12 sounds pretty damn sweet though.

I say let the Cobra stay 8. Gas Guzzler tax will kill you, not to mention the Ins. and actual price tag. Putting a V-10 in a Cobra will knock 50% of potential Cobra buyers(including me) right out of the market due to the cost. A V-10 cobra will be $65,000.00+ in 2006. I say screw the V-10. Don't need it.

I guess I don't see the big deal. Ford already has the V-10. It's not like they need to develop a whole new engine. So why does everyone think the price would go up that dramatically over the current Cobra? The latest rumor says the 06 Cobra will have 500 HP. So the gas guzzler tax will probably apply no matter which engine they squeeze that 500 Hp out of.

They already have the GGT on the '03 Cobras so that wouldn't change. Go to your friendly neighborhood Ins. Co and say you have a V-10 engine in your car. Their eyes will look like a slot machine spinning and come up with $$$ signs.I know they have a V-10 in their truck line, but they would have to do a overhaul of the engine bay for that monster to fit. Plus knowing Ford, they'll jack up the price just for laughs.

Both would be out of my price range.

"'But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me. I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agony--Forgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy?'"-Erich Maria Remarque

I'd take the V10, it is more rare and prestigious than a V8.

TrueBlueCajun - Assume the SC V8 and V10 cost the same and get the same milage (which could be done) Chances are any 500HP Cobra will be around $40K-$45K

I would have to say V8. A V10 would likely weigh more. And that would be bad for weight distribution.

THe recent 5.8L V10 mustang concept is 90lbs. lighter than the superchaged V8 Cobra engine

V8. American Muscle cars only have V8s. V10s are for trucks and clown shoes

The only reason it's lighter is that Ford wimped out on the aluminum block for the 03 cobra

The thing I find amusing is how everyone got pissed when Ford got rid of the 302 and replaced it with the 4.6 Mod motor. Everyone and his dog was freaking out that it wasn't going to be a good motor. That it would never make the same power numbers a 5.0 could, blah, blah, blah.

Now everyone thinks the 2003 Cobra has the best engine ever.

As soon as it comes out and has 500 HP and 600 TQ N/A everyone will say that the V-10 is the best motor ever.

It's funny how easily everyone can be swayed when bigger numbers are involved.
