Got the KB NOW????? - 11-25-03, 08:04 AM

Ok Guys

I really appreciate the advise you all give so......

I have just installed the Kenne Bell 9PSI Intercooled S/C on my 99GT
I am now considering the Kennedy,s Dyno Tune Water Injection Unit as well.
This is my daily driver from Apr -Oct
Is this overkill or just very good added insurance?

Also Denso Iridiums Yea or Nay?

Your thoughts please

I think it is over kill. The KB intercooler looks to be very efficient and water injection might drop temps another 20-30 degrees which isn't enough to justify the expense or hassle. I would kill for an intercooler on my 5.0L like you you have on your car.

Sounds overkill. Did you ask Kennedy's? Better yet did you ask Kenne Bell? They have probably tried and they can probably tell you if it is a waste of money or not.

Denso's - Yea

Sorry I don't have any advice for you. I just want to know how bad ass is your car now with the KB installed. I just ordered mine today and can wait to get it. Is it all they say it is? Does it fell like a big block? Does it scare you?

Let us know how you like it.. Good luck on your future mods

I would say overkill. Water Injection is a short term fix. The KB intercooler is very nice and very efficient. I am pretty sure it's made by the same company that makes the lightning and 03 Cobra intercoolers. I have a 03 intercooler being delivered tomorrow. I can post a picture of it and you can see just how good it is.

I had Denso's my car ran like crap. I took them out and put some 12c's in there - ran like a champ. Plugs are $1.12 each - I change mine at each oil change.

Lot's of welding. I got it today and damn it's gonna be close. Actually it's just a little too big. I only had the intake tacked so I'll cut the tack welds and fit it in one half then modify the other.

I think it's going to work, but you never know.

I got a hint from your previous posts that you wish you had just gone with the KB kit? Are you regretting having to do all this work or is it worth it in your opinion?

Not at all. This is a cool project. Full of challenges.

Agree with all so far... overkill for sure. The KB intercooler is extremely efficient and more than enough.

Denso Iridiums - yes. Like Tom experianced, I also heard others having problems with them, and never got any for myself prior to the blower install, but it's what KB recommended, so I went with them. No problems so far... although I don't know what it would feel like even it it did have a problem.

Tom, what did yours feel/act like with the Denso's? Have you gotten that alum stock yet to make those front mounting brackets?

Pat - with the denso's my car felt sluggish and unresponsive. After I changed to motocraft that all went away. I haven't gotten the aluminum yet. I'm waiting to see exactly what I need because there is a minimum purchase and I only want to buy once. At $2 a pound it will be a lot of aluminum.

Thanks Tom - just got back from a business trip and didn't see your reply.

If I change from the Denso's what would I look for as far as heat range goes? Is it a matter of the same copper plugs I used before and just regapping? Or a different plug?

Not yet. I am still waiting to see if the insurance company is going to cover it or not. I should have an answer next week. I got some estimates. They range from $6500 to $8500 and I was warned by all it could go up from there.

As soon as I get the yes or no from the insurance it will be in the some shop somewhere.
