ati vs. kenne bell -
12-03-03, 04:26 PM
ok which would give better performance gains.
how much boost would you run on the stock motor with
the ati?

Deffinitly ATI in my book.. The centrifugal blower will make more power in higher rpms then the screw type.. You will gain more power like around 2500rpm with the kenne bell, its more of a street blower.. On a stock engine the kenne bell would be fun specially taking off the line.. I loved my D-1 when driving on the street though.. It just wanted to keep pulling but I couldn't rev my stock engine to high.. I only ran 10lbs of boost on my stock long block.. Made some good numbers after the dyno tune..

First off what year car do you have?
Kenne Bell in my opinion. Best for the street, great at the track. Don't believe the centri guys when they tell you they suck at the track. They have no idea. Good numbers all the way across.
Look at my sig. Look at HO93LX302 sig. Not exactly apples to apples but it speaks for itself.

i just dont wanna blow up the motor running to much boost.
i will eventually either put in a vt performance forged block, than im gonna be looking at atleast 14# of boost. well atleast i kno now that i can run 10#'s and not blow up the motor

I know but he did say they don't do well as well at the track. Which they do fine.
I get a lot of centri guys telling me they want to sell their blowers to get a Kenne Bell. That should tell you something. Some have regrets later and miss the power down low for the street.
Honestly you will love any power adder, even Nitrous. It makes the car a whole lot more fun. I wanted a turbo orginally. But they won't pass emissions here in CA.
It's all good. Good luck on your decision.

Well actually I like kenne bells but i just wanted the ati.. if i get another mustang i'm putting a kenne bell on the car.. I know those blowers make good power, i'm just saying a centrifugal will be better for a higher rpm engine.. i know a guy with a kb on his 96 cobra and stock motor running 11's.. I am changing over to vortech though because my buddy has extra brackets cogs and tubes for a mustang setup with a mondo blower.. I plan on putting an X-trim on my new engine when it goes in.. It'll be a 306 long rod which I'll be able to rev to 8,500 without a problem along with 25 lbs of boost going in.. But like DC said any power adder adds more fun in your car deffinitly

No one is dogging the Kenne Bell. It is a great blower and you see me talking good about them every chance I get. But he said:

Acutally if you really want to compare, BC's kb is making just and much HP and MORE torque at 9psi vs. HO93LX302's ATI at 10 psi, You also have to look at the torque and power curves. the screw charger is makng much better power from Idle on up. It's nice to have full power through out the curve vise just in the Upper RPM ranges.
DON'T GET ME WRONG, I am not trying to flame here, but I have respect for both blowers, but IMHO the KB is the better (but more expensive) deal.

ya thats the other thing the kb would be 6g for the unit, install, and tune. i could almost do the procharger and motor around that range. the kb does have a really impressive power curve, cdoes anyone have any dynos of their ati blown stangs?

Yeah, I was there, kind of a cold day, but still fun. I ask because I was talking with a whole bunch of NEBOC guys and others from Conn.

Ok, since we got off topic already, I just want to say "Hi" to a fellow Maine Man. I grew up just out side Caribou, but moved away years ago... Still miss the beautiful fall leaves there. My dad's side of the family are all from Maine, mostly from the Alligash area. Sorry, just don't see too many people from Maine on the boards I hang out at.
