Question valve clearance? - 12-10-03, 01:13 PM

I am going to be running a 347 stroker, 30lb injectors, 255 pump, victor jr(210cc, 60cc chambers,2.05int 1.60exh) victor intake, 75mm tb & maf. My cam i have is .540int and .563exh(TF stg2) w/1.6 rockers, my dyno guy (first time talking) said my heads were two big for cam and recomended a cam with .625-.650int....to me this sounds to big and id run into valve clearance probs. I wasn;t getting anywhere asking him, i dont think he understood my question. Since I am building the thing do i need to adj the valve clearance if i get a cam that big? will one that big wokr? how do you adj valve clearance? BTW i have bought pistons(18cc .030" forged, dished) already....

I would say that you'll be okay with the cam you've got. If you go to that bigger lift, then you'll have to flycut the pistons. 30cc dish with 60cc Vic jr 2.05 will give some clearance, but I'm not sure about .625 lift clearance.
My opinion and guess only.

he is sort of right, you got serious heads with a semi-small girly girl cam, a bigger cam would make some more power, but your cam will be decent enough. p-v clearance is not adjusted. you put the motor together with a light checker spring one one intake and one exhaust valve and roll the motor over by hand and measure the clearance. min is .080" intake and .100" exhaust, if the measure more than your fine, if they measure less than the motor has to come apart to fly cut the piston notches deeper.
