Exclamation Rear-end - 12-18-03, 11:41 AM

Thinking about upgrading the stock rear-end of my '88 and had a few questions. I am planning on going into the mid 12's and possibly some juice in the future hopefully in the low 11's and mabye high tens. What will I need to be strong enough to handle this, and still use as a daily driver? I was thinking about going with 31 spline axles, ford motorsport 3.73, and an Auburn semi-posi unit. Any reccomendations against the Auburn unit. Or any suggestion to go with something else? What are some of you guys running. Thanks

you can not rebuild the auburn unit that is the big drawback, most you can just replace the clutches. i personally would go with a spool or mini spool. stang sells a package that give you 31 spline with c-clip eliminators and 31 spline spool. that is what id get if i didnt drive my car on the road every day.

that is what I would like to do, but as I said it is a daily driver. What do you guys reccomend about just rebuilding the ford oem unit, or can that handle the 31 spline axles. and I thought that rebuilding the unit all you can do is install new clutches. I didnt know the whole unit can be rebuilt, or can it?
All I am trying to do is rebuild the rear and make it strong enough to go high 11's without a problem, make it reliable, and still drive it on the street everyday (thus eliminating the idea of doing c-clip eliminators and a spool). Any other suggestions, I am always open to suggestions. thanks for the inputs.

...A strong combination. What about a compleat rebuild of the rear, and adding a strong GIRDLE on to it ?

Why not jsut stay with the stock rear and ad some low gears. The 8.8 is a very strong rear and many guys run deap into the 10s with them. So a little reserch and you will probobly find out that a stock rebuild and gears will do you just fine. If you do anything other than i rebuild i would recomend some aftermarket axils and c-clip eliminators.

Thanks guys, I am going to go with a stock rear, a rebuild kit, and some motorsport 3.73:1 gears. I received the gears for christmas I think for driving on the street, that it should be just fine. When the time comes to convet it into a car strictly for the track, then I will do the new axles and c-clip eliminators. I appreciate the help.
