Trunk, Firewall Tech Questions - 12-18-03, 05:59 PM

hey guy's im putting my battery in the back of my coupe, and ripping out the back seat. the battery is a dry cell but damn nhra doesnt care.... so do i still need a battery box if i do a firewall in between the passenger compartment and the trunk area of the car? and if so where could i find the thickness spec's for the aluminum or steel i would have to use to make the firewall. and are there any other specifications with this type of stuff that anyone has run into or knows of that they could give me a heads up about that i might run into trouble with at tech next year. thanks alot guys.

cut and pasted:

All batteries must be securely mounted. Batteries may not be relocated into the driver or passenger comparments. Rear firewall of .024 inch steel or .032 alum (including package tray) required when battery is relocated in trunk. In lieu of rear firewall, battery may be located in a sealed .024 steel or .032 alum or NHRA approved poly box. If sealed box is used in lieu of rear firewall, box may not be used to secure battery and must be vented outside the body. Relocated battery(s) must be fastened to frame or frame structure with a minimum of two 3/8" diameter bolts. (J hooks prohibited or must have open end welded shut) Metal battery hold down straps mandatory. Strapping tape prohibited. A maximum of two automotive batteries or 150 pounds combined max weight (unless otherwise specified in class regulations) is permitted. Maximums may vary according to class requirements.
