Unhappy Poor 60' Times at the Track - 01-08-04, 01:57 PM

I'm hoping someone has a similar setup as my car below. First let me give the specs on the car:

94' Convertible GT 5.0L w/T5
- Subframe connectors
- Polyurethane upper and lower control arm bushings
- Eaton-posi traction 3.73 gear
- BF Goodrich 275s
- 17” Drag Radials

The car makes 290 rwHP.

Here are the car’s 2 best ETs:
For each of these runs the car was launched at 3,800rpm while walking the clutch out. The tire pressure was at 15 PSI. This seems the best method to yield these current “best” 60’ times.

Run A:
60’ time – 2.049
1/8 ET – 8.798
1/8 MPH – 80.21
¼ ET – 13.643
¼ MPH – 102.45

Run B:
60’ time – 2.054
1/8 ET – 8.863
1/8 MPH – 82.25
¼ ET – 13.696
¼ MPH – 102.75

As you can see, the biggest problem with this car at the track is the 60’ times! With well over 100 runs on the car, we haven’t reached anything below 2.0 60’s… I’ve seen many Mustangs put down 1.7s or quicker. I know the car will do a better ET in the ¼ mile but I need to fix these 60’ times.

What do I need to do (shocks, struts, upper/lower control arms) to help hook this car?

Thanks,
- Jim

your car seems to be making good power and getting down the track pretty quick even though i'm sure your car's got some weight to it. could it have something to do with the 17" tires? got a friend with some 15" that you could try?

weight transfer isn't happening due to the vert. think you need some drag suspension! at least remove the sway bar in the ront when going to the track

Your right about the weight axe, the car weighs in at 3590 pounds w/a driver. I'm sure someone around here has 15" tires but I don't think that would be the issue...

The last time I was at the track (Run B) the front sway bar was removed. The car had a different feel to it but the removal didn't seem to do much on its own.

its simple, no traction no 60' times. 17" tires are not meant for drags, no side wall means no tire wrinkle which means no traction, 15" tires have alot more side wall which wrinkles making the front to rear contact patch grow, more tire on the pavement more traction. also the drag radials are nice but no that good for traction, better than regular tires but not as good as slicks.
so if you want more traction for better 60's get some 26x8.5 slicks on it. then you'll see 1.8 60's out of it.

SLICKS..............

Slicks and more RPM's. Luanched mine at around 5500. Don't ride the clutch on slicks
