Question Need Help Guys w/Mach 1 - 04-06-04, 06:30 PM

I just purchased a Mach 1 and thrilled with it. Before I had a 03 GT and this Mach 1 gets up and goes. Anyway, I need dyno specs for exhaust systems on a stock Mach 1 and I mean from headers to mufflers. I wanna get magnaflow, no cat X-pipe, and headers (not sure long, short, or mid). Any suggestions will help. Again, looking for horsepower and torque because i ve heard some people lost power or torque. Also, is 10 to 1 compression too much for a blower or other power adders.

Ben

Ben;
Congrats on your new Mach 1! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Here's my stock '03 Mach 1 dyno & stock w/K&N Air Filter:

Here is my car with the Bassani '03 Cobra Catted X-Pipe/Magnaflow Cat-Back/K&N Aircharger Intake system/4.30 gears - I still have the stock cast-iron exhaust manifolds on the car:

There's certainly more power left with the addition of either some good shorty, mid-length or full-length headers.
FWIW, I'm probably going with the Bassani Mid-Lengths due to their ease of install & good power gains while not losing ground clearance.

The Mach 1's 10:1 CR & 4V heads LOVE Nitrous - big gains in power & lower ET's can be the result of a small 75 - 100 shot.
A good tune would be mandatory for long-term safety & reliability.

As far as blowers go, the stock Hyper-U-Craptic pistons & powdered rods are the weakest link in all the 4V motors (with the exception of the '03/'04 Cobras).

If the engine is under boost & experiences detonation, you've got a pretty good chance of breaking something unfortunately.

Again, with a good tune that's checked regularly, a blower motor should last a good long time if you don't get greedy with the boost, use good fuel & check the tune for changes on a regular basis.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
