san diego guys come in please - 05-18-04, 08:20 PM

Ok guys, so Saturday is my girlfriend’s senior prom. Everything is all plned except for what we’re going to do after. Originally we were planning on just going to a party, but we decided to pass on that since we went to one last weekend and both got sick. We are both big beach/nature people so we thought sleeping out somewhere in a tent would be fun. Do you guys know anywhere in san diego where we can camp? I found a website for the san elijo campsite but all the spots were taken. Also, julian is rules out because im sure im not going to want to make that drive after the dance when im all tired.

Yeah Allen kinda tough to get a spot at the beach camping this time of year. try San Onofre or San Clemente.

well, if you wanna do a motel ON the beach, call up the "Del Mar Motel" it is literally right on the beach and the rooms are very reasonably considering it's location. i work up the street from there and have stayed there a few times due to drinking too much wine at wine tastings and all that

Damn L, looks like you do have a pretty nice gig going there I think i could deal with smoking some fat cigars and doing some wine tasting. I probably wouldnt last long though before getting canned. I would be wine "tasting" all the dang time

Allen, all I can think of is like Julian or camping up at the La Jolla Indian Reservation. You can rent big tire tubes, and float down the stream and drink beers all day. Its a pretty good time, although its pretty far.

Allen, Try the Best Western in Carlsbad. it too is right on the beach with a good surf spot right out front.
I could probably get you a discount at one of my Hotels but they are not on the beach.

alright so i talked to the del mar motel again this morning and i guess they are going to let me get a room w/out the 2 night stay. only thing is that the room is not once of the ocean view rooms. i guess my question is, how are the rooms if they arent ocean view? is it still nice? their website dosnt have too much on it, all i see are pictures of patios on the beach, but since its not an ocean view room i assume i dont get that?

thanks, allen

bill, waht hotels do you haveand do you think you could get me a discount?

best western had the 2 night minimum.
only camp spot open is some place in liguna niguel which is too far for me.

My Hotels are the Courtyard by Marriott and the Residence Inn by Marriott.
Both located in beautiful Carlsbad. One is 3 miles from the beach and the other 4 miles.
What night are you talking about?
Another nice Hotel (my competition) is the Hilton Garden Isle in Carlsbad. right across the street from the beach, rooms with Ocean views and good surf.
Let me know.

as i recall, even if you can't see the ocean from your room, you just open your door and look outside to the right and you'll see the ocean. if you are on the top floor you go down a flight of steps and you are on the sand and if you are on the ground floor just walk to the west and you'll hit sand after 50 yards or so. the rooms are nice but nothing fancy. it's not a Hyatt or Embassy Suites thats for sure but its a clean, comfortable room.

you can "camp out" in my back yard...I live in a horse ranch in Bonsall and its pretty much as close to nature as you might find round these parts.....just be ware the wild animals (my 2 huskies)......

I'm just playin...I wish there was someplace I knew other than on base, but you gotta make reservations months in advance.
