Python venom 400 pcm ? - 02-19-06, 07:52 PM

wondering if any of you guys are running the Venom 400 PCM on your 94/95 ?

the module claims a 25% increase in the 1000-5000 rpm range and better throttle response. its a $300 piece, i got one a while back for 1/2 that but never have installed it.

anyone tried this module? curious if you can really tell a power gain or not.
should i try it or sell it and just get a A9L computer (tryin to get rid of that timing retard between shifts) ?

also, this would be goin on a fresh 306...would it still work with the bigger H/C/I etc?

thanks guys

A 25% gain on a NA h/c/i combo of 300rwhp = 75rwhp

I gotta think the reality here would be more like

As for moving back to an A9L pcm.

Lots of opinions and strong feelings about it

A 15 sec search using PIH shows 66 threads in this forum

Others like you have thought the same

I'd go see what all the talk is about

As for me ...... I say tune your original pcm

Look forward to seeing how your 306 combo turns out

preciate it grady.

more and more i read peoples opinions on the 400, the more they call

and for good reason i guess. if 300 bucks or less could get you a 25% gain, id say everyone would have 1
i was just hoping for a glimmer that it might be what they said it was

o well, cross your fingers for me when i get the 306 together for 300 rwhp

I am glad you did not take my reply as me wanting to ............

Rain all over your parade

Since you got it for a very good price.

Seems like you could get out from under it easily ......... that is

unless you wanted to give it a try.

Even though 25% is unreasonable ........

One would think it would give some kind of gain.

surely it would make -some- difference....
but some of the guys that posted on here , in other threads, that used the 400 said they had some idle issues and crappy throttle response

like you said, i dont have too too much in it, maybe i can sell it.
wonder if i could get $150 out of it ....thats 1/2 what a new one costs

anyway, guys on here said to take what grady says as gold.....so grady, shoot me some advice. take a look at my sig. i want to make at least 300 rwhp.....can i do it with that combo?

cant decide on afr 185s or 165s.... i get different opinions from different ppl. they say for what im doin, the 165 might suit some more bottom end grunt.
and yes..i know i know i have a off-the-shelf cam on there and it may be a little on the big side. i called Reed custom cams to get some specs on a custom grind and his cam is so close to a trickflow stage1. his is like 222/228 and 510/510. the stage1 is 221/225 499/510 . that seems REALLY close for a extra $120.....what do u think?

id like to run the tfs stage 2 ....i want some thumpin but i dont want too much cam either and kill the bottom end.....

can i get away with the stage 2 (224/232 542/563)?
or is that custom grind that much different than a stage 1?

any help would be GREATLY appreciated

thanks again

Gee

I certainly don't have all the answers

But thanks for the vote of confidence

I'm really not the best kind of help for cam facts as I used a hired gun to kill my concerns about a cam.

Those specs you gave do seem close to each other.

You said your eye was fixed on at least 300rwhp
AND
It seemed you wanted my opinion about how to get it

If I was to do my combo all over again .............

I'd do it all the same except ..................

Have Ed go a bit hotter with the cam
Use race type or non ball & socket LT headers
Have the lower ported

I firmly believe the above will produce 350rwhp or very close to it
AND
Provide a torque curve that still is close to my current curve
PLUS
Have the ability to give stock like drivability .......... IF ..............

You have the right tune that is
