HELP, can you mix match O2 sensors? - 02-19-07, 04:57 AM

Here's my story: 90 GT40 crate motor in my 87. After pulling the motor my dog ate/chewed up the wires on one of the O2 sensors. Found (what I thought was a deal. Should have inquired more) an O2 sensor for 10 bucks shipped. When it arrived it was different that what I had originally had.

the one that came out of my car is the stubby looking one and the one I bought looks like a sealed cylinder w/those tampon looking cuts at the tip.

Now, I have a little bit of fine tuning to do, but when I pulled the plugs to give them the correct gap the drivers side plugs were nice and clear. The pass side (where the O2 sensor I bought is put) look black like that side of the motor was running rich.

Is the O2 sensor the cause or do I just need to take care of my fine tuning issues first then check plugs later????

My OEM Ford O2's had the same slits at the top.

IMO Id get the right O2's for both sides.
They are only like $43 each IIRC
