I have just aquired an 89' 5.0 5sp notchback with CEL. I bought a code scanner, and cant's get the scanner to connect to the computer. I also tried grounding the single wire and the eec wouldn't go into the self diagnostic mode. If the scanner is plugged into the car running, it will stop running in a few seconds, and won't start until the scanner is disconnected. EEC fried?

So plugging in the scanner to the running engine will kill the engine?

I have no idea how to help, but I do want to hear how this works out.
