Question cam timing - 05-07-07, 09:30 AM

I have my ford e303 cam set to be retarted 8 degrees to add hp. How can i measure piston to valve clearance with my heads on to make sure I wont bang up my motor when I start it? Also how much clearance should I have minimum? I have my rev limiter set to 6000.

Most folks say you should have at least .100" clearance.

Set the HG in place, locate the head, and snug up the head bolts.
If you don't go full torque, then you should be able to re-use the HG.
(I will be purchasing an extra set of HG's for this reason though. I don't want to take the chance.)

You may get more responses to this in the general tech section. I'll let you request the move if you feel it appropriate.

Good Luck,
jason
