What plugs? -
05-17-07, 12:02 PM
I've heard differing opinions on spark plugs, but since I didn't really know when building my motor I just put in the AP24's. I've heard this is wrong for a built N/A or a supercharged motor? Any opinions?
92 Mustang coupe, 331 stroker w/ 10:1 compression and 5-speed Tremec (N/A). The motor was professionally done and only the block was reused. I upgraded to 30#injectors, 190gph fuel pump, msd coil, bbk ssi intake, cold air, cc 1.6 roller rockers, World Windsor Jr. iron heads, chip, shorty headers, deleted smog, high flow cats, flowmasters, 70 mm TB, 73mm MAF, SRP forged pistons, 5.4” H-beam rods, 4340 steel crank, balanced @ 28 oz, billet steel flywheel, etc.
Lunati Custom Cam 110/118 lobes, .548" lift, 230/237 dur. @ .050

not to thread jack, but are the basic autolite platinums any good for a mild combo?

Cenok-For some reason, the stangs don't seem to do well with platinum, at least in my experience. I now use copper exclusively.
357W
9.7:1 CR
Eddie Performer RPM 2.02 heads/intake
Comp cams 274XE cam
70mm TB
95mm PMAS Velocity
42 lb Inj
A9L w/ AFM PMS V4
KC Clutch
3.55's,
73MM fronts
Eibach Pro Kit.
All topped off with a teeny little puff of giggly gas.

plugs -

so I changed my plugs (along with fixing vaccum & oil leaks and adding a phenolic plenum spacer) and the car runs freakin AWESOME.
I had the autolite platinum 25's @ .040 and went to the copper & cooler autolite standard 24's @.035 b/c builder thought might be getting spark blowout @ 10:1
Definately the standards but I think gap for build.

I use A/L 23's gaped to.035. Two steps colder than stock and great for my nitrous and boost.

Would the copper autolites be best bet just for forced induction/NoS equipped stangs or all in your opinion? Am running platinums here atm myself and am not very impressed.

I like the copper autolites for everything. I run them on my 91 sc gt and the 88 2.3l.

Copper is a better conductor of electricity than platnium so it offers a better spark.
With th3 5.0's they tend to like the stock OEM Motorcraft/Autolite 25 plugs.
A step even better are silver plugs, but i don't think they make them to fit the 5.0 yet...plus they are $8-9/plug.
