Saturn ION starting issue - 01-15-08, 03:39 PM

My buddy has a 2003 Saturn ION, and more often than not he will get in it to go somewhere, turn the key, and the starter will kick for a second, then it will flash the security light on his dash. He can try it after that, and it will do the same thing every time, until he lets it sit for 10 minutes exactly. After that 10 minutes, it will start just fine. He can drive anywhere, shut it off, then it will be a 50/50 chance that it will start right up, or do the same thing again. The starter, battery, and alternator are all perfect. The car's out of warranty, so the stealership is out of the question. Any ideas? It does this with both sets of keys, if that makes any difference.

Problem with the anti-theft system in the car, itself (rather than the key(s)), perhaps? Sorry to say, but if that's the case, that's something you'd be better off taking it to the dealership to have serviced...
