C9E Block questions - 01-22-08, 11:57 AM

I'm looking at an old C9E block to drop in my 94 GT. I see a few of you have dropped 460's into foxes so I figured I would ask my questions in here.

I want to work this motor up. can anybody tell me whats the highest hp these blocks will handle?

I see you guys needed a new oil pan, serp belt setup, and mounts. I'm guessing I would need the same stuff. Is this correct?

Is there any added weight to the front of the car? As of right now my car is lowered 2" and I have KYB GR-2 Struts. Would this be a problem?

One of teh most important problems I'll have. Can I make it pass emissions? I'd like to be able to drive it whenever I want. Would this be possible?

The idea is getting this old block and a 514 stroker kit and build up a streetable monster. That if I wanted to I could drive everyday. You see plunty of people on here with crazy HP dd why can't my idea work for another one

I don't think it would pass emissions. I have never seen one in a sn95, but it would be cool. I'll ask some of my friends and see what they say.

Thanks. From what i get outta my thread in the 94-95 section the 85 and up 460's were emission motors. So I could use parts off of one of them to make it pass. Just a thought don't know if it would work or not

I ask my sn95 buddy and he said that a guy here did one a few years ago, but I have not had a chance to ask the guy.

well in that last few minutes of the auction somebody bid he next amount and beat me and I didn't get any emails to know. figures when I don't check it for a min I lose. Was looking on ebay again last night.

What do ya'll think of these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lot-o...spagenameZWDVW

Lot of 3 blocks. 2 have some parts ones complete that had a rod throught the oil pan. I was thinking i could at some point have them all gone over and sell off the 2 I don't use and the parts to fund the project. Not sure though they look kinda rough.

Also might ask around some junk yards. I kinda liked the idea of just a bare block that I could piece together though. I'm kinda worried if i go to a junk yard they will only have newer blocks. I want a older one cause of toughness. I don't wanna be like ya i need a old one and a new one please unless i can get the real cheap

Go to the bone yards and see. The one close to my house has one and they want $500 and that is to pull it. You should be able to find a good deal.

Yeah I'm gonna keep an eye on these 3 and maybe take a ride to the local junk yard tomorrow and see what they got. I have always been against junkyard motors but if I'm rebuilding the whole thing anyway its basically new.

You will need new springs and probably new struts. It is possible to make it pass emissions but, it will take alot of work on your part. An aftermarket DFI set-up (FAST XFI, Accel Gen7, or Big Stuff) would be needed. The stock C9 block unless it is from a Boss (4 bolt main) is good to the 800 range N/A.
